Lg. Northern Red Giant Mulberry Tree (morus rubra)

$35.86

Northern Red Giant Mulberry Tree is a cold-hardy selection of Morus rubra, native to North America from Canada to Florida and west to South Dakota and Texas. It develops a broad, spreading canopy with large, richly green, somewhat rough-textured leaves that can reach impressive size. Small, inconspicuous flowers appear in spring as the foliage emerges.
The fruit ripens from red to deep purple-black when fully mature. Berries are very sweet with excellent quality, suitable for fresh eating, jams, pies, and baking. As with all mulberries, the fruit is botanically a collective fruit rather than a true berry. After pollination, the tiny individual flowers and their fleshy bases swell and merge, forming the elongated, juicy structure that resembles a plump loganberry. Hardy to Zone 5, Northern Red Giant is valued for its adaptability, strong growth, and dependable production in cooler climates.
