Lg. Coontie Palm (cycad zamia pumila)

$19.05

Coontie Palm, Cycad Zamia pumila, is a resilient native cycad valued for its fine-textured, feather-like foliage and compact growth habit. Though commonly called a palm, it is actually a cycad, producing evergreen leaves that resemble soft fern fronds.
In its early years, the plant grows from a large underground storage root before gradually forming a low trunk. Over time, it produces suckers that create a spreading colony, eventually forming attractive mounds 5 to 6 feet wide. The light green, leathery leaves add soft texture while maintaining durability in the landscape.
Coontie’s unique, ground-level growth makes it ideal as a specimen accent, mass planting, or container feature in urban gardens. Thriving in full sun to partial shade with well-drained soil, it performs best in USDA Zones 8B to 11, offering low-maintenance structure and native character to warm-climate settings.
